[ Hiyori flinches when his back is touched, but he's able to recover from it well enough to offer a shaky laugh. ]
Yes, you may bore them by telling them of how for a brief moment you had ASUNARO's top surgeon in your care.
[ The implication will be lost on an imbecile such as this of course, as even if he were to succeed a fate far worse than what Hiyori could offer would await, but he should at least be able to recognize the name as the biggest company in the world. As with Hope's Peak, they were quite particular outside of mundane work, and to be their top surgeon was the equivalent of being the best the world had to offer. It might seem fake if it wasn't part of the reason he was sought after. First for his status as an Ultimate, then as his position at ASUNARO.
There was no reason for him to pick up the second job as a physician, really. But perhaps it might offer some context for why he's chosen to step down for the moment; ASUNARO would demand priority of his time and efforts, especially when one of their top doctors was out of commission for so long. He stuffs his hands into his pockets, kicking up a bit of gravel next to the car as the question finally seems to register. ]
Mm...? How did I... [ He mumbles, before perking up. ] Oh, I was stabbed by a man who said he was going to make me a god. But I already have two jobs, and I need to focus on my continuing education, so I couldn't possibly take on another.
[ He takes one hand out to wave his hand with a cheery grin, as though this too, were simply a delightful little tale. He takes a couple steps toward the pair, showing no signs of the irritation bubbling up beneath the surface. Hm, should he do it now...? How inconvenient to be injured now, since there's no way himself or Komaeda can move him. It's truly disappointing. It would be an uneven surface for him to work on, and it would be all the more unsanitary and uncomfortable. Well, one can't have everything they want. ]
[ It looks like he does understand what a problem it would be. Hiyori is impressed. Then, he thinks, he should also understand that those who were accepted by the company were above normal humans. If Hope's Peak collected singular talents and encouraged them while choking out everything else, ASUNARO could be called a place for prodigies who would never be satisfied no matter how many they picked up. He despises the former, but even so, between the two they simply had different approaches and were made for different people. It was why he was picked up immediately after - because he would never be satisfied.
It wasn't because he had either that he had talent. It was because he would never be satisfied.
He raises his hand with his palms open when questioned. ]
Not at all. It was an act of love... Love, and luck.
[ Hope. He doesn't hate that word. He thinks that hope and love are intertwined, a person can't have one without the other. It was an act of love for the sake of hope, and that's why he's chosen to see where this leads. Hiyori is a bystander with neither hope nor despair, watching the chips as they fall and only nudging on a whim. But he's always thinking on his direction (at such times when he's not muddled by drugs,) and he'll make a choice at the right time.
He nods to Komaeda next, that easy smile on his face. Luck, because just a few inches more and he would have found it. But even this is an interesting turn of events. ]
... There is, Komaeda-kun. There's ways, it's just which one you so choose.
[ That was another spot where the two institutions that had shaped his life differed; those of ASUNARO were aware of the experiments being conducted. They tried so hard, but nothing could be hidden from them. But they were closely intertwined, and so there was a kind of non-interference treaty. After all, Hope's Peak would send only their best. But it stopped there, as a human could not possibly handle that kind of stress. It would be a miracle if achieved, a beautiful disaster, as the human mind would crumble under that weight.
But what if it wasn't a true human? What if you could throw away the country's foolish idea that emotions need be discarded for an AI, that it was a romantic affair. But he's seen the ideas of those around him, Harai's ideal, the thought of a true human. A computer built with such talent and curiosity could have everything; what it didn't have could be added; what it didn't have could be learned in moments or days... All without sacrificing the heart that makes a human. A brilliant, shining star that none could match. It's infuriating and detestable to one who has worked for every scrap of talent, and yet, inoffensive for it would always be less than any human.
A truly fascinating idea. But not one he can share here.
He's shaken out of this thoughts, that affectionate smile fading as he's addressed once more. The first few words are missed, but he's able to pick up on the idea based on context clues. He cocks his head to one side, blinking slowly at the suggestion that Komaeda should go first. Was he really do afraid of him now? Was he not a predator who could not be caught? He should be, and so Hiyori closes the gap between himself and the Ultimate Luck, stroking his hair, looking to the man unlocking the door. ]
Are you not confident in your skills? My case is simple, and so you should have no difficulty....
[ He closes his eyes and hums thoughtfully. He'd rather not have trash like this touching his patient, but there's something to be said about opportunity. ]
But I'm not object to observance either. I'm happy to assist... Komaeda-kun, what do you think? I'm happy to go first, and it's easy enough for me to go alone - you need not see me embarrassing myself.
[ He let's his hand slide down his face, cupping his cheek briefly before moving down and his index finger briefly linger on his chin before he removes it. Komaeda's luck would protect him, but so would Hiyori if he so chose.
He's nothing more than a human, just one for whom there was never enough. And so, he put more effort in than anyone. ]
[ There's not much he can do for the petulant rejection. Hiyori might have objected, nudged him into coming along to avoid letting him out of his sight, but before he knows it he's being shoved toward the door with a sharp exhale. It's common sense rather than intuition that warns him of such, but there's not much he can can do when he's being pushed forward. The door shuts behind them, the lock clicks shut, and he presently considers his situation as he watches the man shuffle about.
Ah... He wants a smoke. He didn't ever quite pick up the habit, not when the smell of smoke would seep into everything, but he'd always taken one when offered. It's a wonderful little drug, and he finds himself wanting one now. He notes every detail of the room. It looks like something out of a third-rate horror movie, befitting of a third-rate murderer. He'll throw up if he stays in such a disgusting place for too long, and the Ultimate Surgeon supposes that he best work quickly.
His expression remains static, though he catches and duly notes the we. Ah, that's why he'd hoped to bring him with, but perhaps this was inevitable. His luck ought to protect him, but if it doesn't, then Hiyori may safely prioritize himself and what comes next. That is his, after all. Every single thing that he touches is his, and he does so hate thieves. Yes, he thinks, for every one thing taken from him, he would collect ten times the amount.
How does that work, for a human, who has only one life to give? It doesn't matter. They can be taken apart and stitched back together through his talents, kept alive with blood transfusions and drugs and care that's unrivaled by any other in the world... Thanks to his talent, Hiyori can kill and revive them over and over again, until there's nothing left of their minds or bodies.
The easy smile is still there, but the look has shifted again. There's not a hint of love or hope in that gaze, no despair, it's something cold and calculating. It's a piercing look that cuts down into a person's soul, identifying every plan and every emotion, clinically assessing every bit of sickness to cut and pierce and remove. It's there and it's gone, as he blinks and that soft, slightly dazed look is back, as though the former were merely a trick of the mind. He takes a few steps forward, allowing that distance to remain, searching for some non-existent part of the room that isn't covered in the filth and rot.
He reaches back with his hand, letting it slide under his shirt with a flinch. ]
Do you have a first aid kit? I need to do a touch up on myself.
[ He doesn't, but he wants to hear the answer. He wants to see if he can't distract him just a little bit. ]
Are you nervous...? You need not be. This is only to determine if I can leave my most precious patient in your care, is it not?
[ A chuckle. Tick, tock... His contact already knows how long to wait before coming. ]
[ stan is a serial killer name sorry but your friend is objectively wrong.
That easy smile widens a little bit as he feels the other’s focus on him. It’s an intuitive response, without a single thought behind it, and the way his eyes are clouded behind half-lidded eyes assures that there’s nothing at all to be concerned about. He is the Ultimate Surgeon, he is ASUNARO’s top surgeon, a reputable doctor who is well connected and beloved on his own merits, but he is all the same a man who is in a haze from drugs and pain. There's nothing threatening about him at all.
He takes the cigarette and observes it, mumbling about how it's been awhile since he last had one, and the lighter in turn. He'll give neither back, but nor will he immediately use them. Instead, he'll wait until Nordbert has left in order to inspect it more carefully. He gives it a little sniff, inspects the coloring, and pockets it along with the lighter. Hiyori tries to follow along, footsteps light and breath carefully controlled, but his movements are too slow to catch up and he's unable to immediately handle his problem.
He adapts instead, waiting for the sound of heavy steps down the stars before he creeps around to see if the hatch is shut beneath him. If it is, he'll crouch down - off to the side, in an area that would be a blind spot for a person just opening it to come out. His speed and coordination aren't as good as they usually are, but it's an easy matter to lean over with a taser and click the button once it's close enough to a person's head. If the shock or resulting tumble kill him, that's not his problem.
If he's not so lucky as for it to shut, he'll have no choice but to leave in order to get a quick view of the rest of the house before finding a different blind spot to slink into. Ah, such a shame that he missed the opportunity to take care of things swiftly... But he's as adept at hiding his presence as anything else, and his focus resumes long enough for him to put extra care into that now. He'd rather not have to get up suddenly, so perhaps around a wall or on the inside of a door... Oh, but in these movies, isn't a closet or a wardrobe traditional? Anywhere that seems like a good spot to catch a person off guard. ]
[ My, my, was it that easy? Was he so third rate? Hiyori isn't sure, and so he clicks the tazer again - once, twice, not caring if the individual beneath him dies. It would ensure he would be unconscious long enough to take care of the rest of his business, and so that should suffice. He laughs softly as he yanks that unconscious body up by the hair, leaning forward to whisper to it. ]
Do you know why I'm the way that I am...? It's not because of my family, it's not of Hope's Peak, it's not because of ASUNARO... It's because I put forth more effort than anyone else. Scum like you can't understand that.
[ Scum like this couldn't understand the efforts of Sou Hiyori. They couldn't understand a life of observing others without feeling a hint of affection for them, of mastering every subject, of carefully calculating every hint and deed and action for all of his life. The result of studying every subject, of understanding everything, of penciling in every minute. The efforts of loving every patient, of sixteen hour workdays, of falling asleep at his desk and then stumbling into work. The efforts of talking kindly and smiling when he was tired and irritable, the efforts of loving patients and coworkers, of spending his free time going around and smiling and loving and kindly connecting with neighbors and business owners.
Hiyori loves humans more than any other. He loves the way they grow, he loves the way that they break. He loves to see spines snap and chest cavities crack open as much as he loves to see the bright smiles of those who will later go on to become brilliant professionals who far exceed the Ultimates in their field. He loves the success of the competent, he loves the use of the trash, and he is the brilliant medium that can utilize them both.
He would save them all, he would kill them all, Sou Hiyori would use them all as he so pleased for that was who he was. The man who could have become the Ultimate Hope, and yet who so chose not to because he wanted to watch the world turn... He was a natural and true talent, so unlike any other than would exist. Experiments? AIs? Sick, disgusting, worthless creatures created by human hands that his patient would love - because anything was enough to trash, so long as it was better than them.
No matter, he would burn it down. He would destroy it all before it came to fruition. He'd already ensured that their efforts would never bear fruit, after all. After all, such small errors and small changes could destroy an entire project. After all, any small error could lead to the death of the subject, and Sou Hiyori should know that better than any other.
Ahahahha... ASUNARO had vested interest in protecting the wold by preventing Ultimate Despair, and such interest in seeing Ultimate Hope, and yet Sou Hiyori csared about none of these things. Stupid, stupid, stupid, he only wishes for them all to die. He only wishes for an endpoint, only for them all to self-destruct, only for them all to implode, only for his own self preservation.... Sou Hiyori, who works with and independently of ASUNARO, who has put forth more effort than anyone else... Who would burn the world down if he so chose.
He doesn't, though, for the cogs are already turning. He takes that body and lifts himself up just enough to push it down the stairs, and there's a disgustingly pleasant kind of pain with that that makes him curl in on himself and gasp with pain that turns into a laugh before he pushes himself up properly and unlocks the door before pushing it open with that same confused, empty look and dazed smile as before. ]
Komaeda-kun...?
[ Sou Hiyoiri isn't a predator, he is no god, but a mere human. A meager, pathetic human, who should never elevate himself to any other status. He can never be anything more, nor anything else, that's why, no matter what... He has to work harder than anyone else. ]
[ He would need to go back to see if his newest patient was still alive, and to inspect what was down below, but the strength of the electrocution would be enough to keep him out for some time. Even when he did, he would be in poor condition after having experienced multiple shocks. For now he opts to try and locate his former patient, who is no longer sitting on the porch. He'll check the car to ensure no one is in or under it, as well as the surrounding area, before he lifts up the phone and checks the messages with a frown.
What a nuisance.
He'll run through each and every action later, analyzing and determining what went wrong - where he went wrong, what mistakes were made, what he needed to do next time. He'll work even harder, and he'll put in more effort, he'll kill faster, and he'll become the immaculate and untouchable human that he needs to be. But for the moment Hiyori only scans the ground to see if there's anything that might catch his attention. Failing that, he'll check to see if there's anything else of immediate interest on the phone - recent apps, perhaps...?
If he can't find anything at all, he'll be forced to retreat and deal with his own problems first, but he'd rather not. It's a doctor's duty to protect their patients, after. That aside, if Nordbert did have an associate, it would be terribly rude of him to neglect them. ]
[ Hiyori copies the note onto his own phone before he tucks both away for the moment. He doesn't immediately see the water bottle, which seems a bit strange if that was what was used, but his drug addled brain is running too slow for him to process it. He used up what limited awareness he had preparing and executing a plan to deal with that.
Tick-tock. His police contact should be working on locating him now. He wonders if he'll have time to play here. It's fine if not... It'd almost be ideal if he didn't receive support. He can take people apart and stitch them together and his talent ensures that they'll only get the best care. Well, until he decides to leave, and who knows what might happen then? Of course, it might be nice to take inspiration from those cute little notes and just leave him for days and days and see what happens. A person can survive for a surprisingly long time on just a saline solution.
Ahh... It really would be better after all. Hiyori really is upset about how much has been taken from him by now. He needed to ensure that he was given proper compensation.
He catches the bushes rustling, and he hesitates. It would be bad if there were another person in there. He takes a few cautious steps toward it, straining his eyes as much as his ears to try and discern what might be hidden behind it. The tazer has been hidden away, along with a knife that he'd taken from the kitchen. It's not as efficient, but there's no harm in having it. ]
(deleted comment)
HE'S SO STUPID RN but he got a 17 in perception so i guess his ears and eyes work just not his brain
[ He hesitates, but the clock is ticking, and it'll be dark soon. If it's something of note, then it's better to deal with it sooner than later. He still needs to deal with the matter of his missing person as well. So though it runs contrary to his better judgment, Hiyori will begin to push some of the branches of the bush aside to get a better look at what's hiding within it. ]
[ Oh, how cute... Hiyori looks around to see if he can locate the mother, but even so, it's a bit off that there's only two of them. Moreover, one really shouldn't handle strays without gloves, or a trap. It's a problem, though, as he'd rather not take them if the mother is still around. Moreover, he'd need a box or something similar to put them in. He looks around and doesn't see any other cats. The car doesn't have anything of use either, and he'd rather not bring them into such a disgusting house to be rested on disgusting floors.
He'll walk back insider, pacing through the house to see if he can find a box or something similar that could be used for them. Once he's located one, he'll return back to the bush and check to see if they're still there. It's casual and unbothered, that ever-present smile laced with a hint of worry, as though the man from before had been nothing more than a daydream. Perhaps it had been, or perhaps it's because it wasn't that he can act in such a carefree manner, because when he thinks about it now, no human could survive so many charges from an illegal tazer. It's a shame, and he'll have to check when he can, but it allows him to shift his priorities to finding what he needs and to looking for Komaeda. ]
[ It's curious, and he does take the time to tuck the spare cell phone into his back pocket. He does lift the kitten off of him, wincing as his stomach has tiny kitten claws stuck in it, but it's nothing that scruffing it can't fix. He watches as the kitten goes limp in his hand before placing it in the box along with its sibling. He takes that up with him. The bending and lifting can hardly be called pleasant, but it's not like he has anyone to complain to.
He decides to take it inside for now. He needs to get the car keys, and this place was noisy. He sets the box down, once more lifting the felines up as he sets it under them. The soft fabric and warmth clinging to it, he thinks, should be enough to keep them in place for the moment. Aside from Komaeda, they're the first pleasant experience he's had today, and with the drugs wearing off and his current situation containing countless problems for him to deal with, Hiyori's grateful for that alone.
Hiyori replaces the spare cell phone in his pocket with the tazer. He holds it in his hand, checking it as he walks back into the kitchen. There's only one place left in the house to inspect, and it's one that he would be remiss to neglect. Is his new friend where he left him? After being tazed multiple times, he might be dead from the high voltage. If he wasn't, then having the shock course through his head would certainly lead to permanent brain damage, if not other issues. That was, of course, the point.
So much to do, so little time, and so even while off the clock his work is never complete. ]
(deleted comment)
they're perfect for him... why do i keep rolling 17s, i was doing it for speed he's CRIPPLED DICE
[ There's a heavy sigh. Problem after problem. Hiyori supposes he should have taken a knife to his neck before leaving for good measure rather than playing with his food. He'll set the phone he'd found down on the floor for now, being that he's carrying too many items as is, and he shakes his head in disappointment. If a person had any sense, they wouldn't be screwing around after that much voltage and losing pieces of their body. He's surprised they woke up so quickly.
Problem after problem, and he starts his descent. Each step is another wave of fresh pain. His aches are only getting worse as time goes on and the drugs start to wear off, and pain replaces cloudiness, but he pushes through it. But despite his condition, he's able to move down the stairs quickly and without and missteps. He assesses the situation as he does so, looking about the room. It's no doubt even more disgusting than the rest of the house. ]
My, my... What do we have here...?
[ There's no sense in trying to hide his presence, not when every stair makes a hideous creak as he goes down it, and so Hiyori doesn't hesitate to announce himself. His voice strains, though, pain creeping into it. ]
(deleted comment)
IT'S HIS NOW, HE'S TAKING EVERYTHING AS COMPENSATION
[ Problem after problem, and to stumble onto such a scene. It's cooler down here, and the mix of must and alcohol makes his stomach churn, and his patient looking as much of a mess as the man laying on the floor. He was clearly drugged, and Komaed doesn't seem to recognize him at all. Hiyori's expression softens, worry tinting his features as he watches Komaeda. He needed medical care, and that would need to take priority. He runs through each mistake, and he believes he should have taken care of things sooner. He was falling slack, he was getting complacent.
He looks around the room, identifying the small window, but it doesn't seem as though it would be enough for a person to slip through. Was there another entrance? Ah, but it hardly matters, had he not dallied it would be a non-issue. The next time he identified something that threatened his life, he would kill them quickly, without an inch of hesitation, or he would die in the process of doing so. ]
Komaeda-kun...
[ His voice is soft and tentative, and he bites his lip. Hiyori is pale and unable to hide his own fatigue, the events of the day having taken on him, but no matter. This is only the beginning of his day, after all, of another miserable and sleepless night asleep followed by crawling onto his sofa. He has to make sue he never makes another mistake, that he's perfect, that he's putting in more effort than anyone else - ]
Sou Hiyori. I'm a doctor and a surgeon. I came here to collect my compensation from this man, who's taken from both myself and my patients. It's nothing you need to involve yourself in. [ There's no point in playing games now. He holds his hands out in front of him, splaying his fingers to indicate that there's nothing in them before he folds them in front of him. ] Now, who are you looking for?

i rolled a 7 on intellect i'm crying
HE'S SO STUPID RN but he got a 17 in perception so i guess his ears and eyes work just not his brain
HIS NEW CATS GOOD GOOD
He'll walk back insider, pacing through the house to see if he can find a box or something similar that could be used for them. ]
MEEE i'm thinking of cute names rn
they're perfect for him... why do i keep rolling 17s, i was doing it for speed he's CRIPPLED DICE
IT'S HIS NOW, HE'S TAKING EVERYTHING AS COMPENSATION
